The Horticulture Association of Bhutan Code of Practice is the result of an initiative taken by the sector to introduce a voluntary system of continuous professional and technical development, monitoring and self-regulation into the sector and is designed to address market and civil society concerns about standards for social and environmental performance in the sector and also to guide the sustainable development of the sector.
How the code was developed
The code has been developed by a multi-shake holder group comprising HoAB members, the condederation of Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in designing the code consideration was given to:
The relevant Law of Bhutan – The concerns of Bhutan Civil Society – The needs of the farms – The key concerns of the international flower market
The Code that produced contains standards for: – Systems and record keeping – Good Agricultural Practices – Protection of the Environment – Occupational Safety and Health – Employment practices
The Benefits of Implementation
Code Provide useful guidance about standards and systems so it is a good management tool for tropics that have not previously received the necessary attention.
